  • The price of soda has decreased almost 40% since the 1970s, while the price of fruits and vegetables has increased almost 40%. Why? Money, power, and corruption... all at the expense people’s health and quality of life! The food industry and the government have irresponsibly pushed their own agenda instead of the health of Americans for decades. As a result we are faced with an epidemic of food-driven chronic disease. This is one of many important points that @markhymanmd talks about in his new book, Food What the Heck Should I Eat. The book is officially out this Tuesday. Scoop up a copy to become a more informed consumer (warning: your blood pressure might go up while reading!) and stop believing all the lies....that 3 cups of dairy per day is necessary, that vegetable oils are healthy, that steak is unhealthy, bad, blah, blah, blah! Also stay tuned for a cool project we are working on for more personalized nutrition recs after the book launch! Happy Friday!!! 🍎🥦🍊🥝🍋🍆🥑🥥🍓
  • It’s easy to feel sorry for yourself or play victim, I’ve done it many times in my life. Sometimes it just takes a little perspective to move out of that place. I so appreciate this truth from my yoga and life coach, @soul_activist who taught me to bless those that did not choose me and bless those that I did not choose....whether it’s a job, relationship, etc. One day it all becomes clear! #forgiveness #breathlessyoga
  • Helping Cleveland get healthier one video and gut healing bone broth at a time! It’s a group effort. Have an awesome day!! 🙌📸🍜 #bts #btsimagines #bonebroth #sofun @kyle_hammonds @townhallohc
  • There’s not one style of eating that works best for everyone because of biochemical individuality. But here’s a few patterns that I have observed in seeing thousands of functional medicine patients using food to create health (rather than focusing on weight loss): the Pegan Diet (which merges paleo and vegan principles) is an amazing long-term ‘way of eating’ for many; vegan diets tend to be hard on the digestive system; paleo diets can make it hard to get enough fiber (unless eating lots of veggies). In my latest article I give the run down on all of the controversy between vegan and paleo and the offspring of the two...the Pegan diet! Get the link in my bio which also includes a presentation that I did last year at the @clevelandclinic on the Pegan Diet! 📸 @healthyselfreset @eatlovewithlove #pegan #paleo #vegan
  • I spent most of the day developing recipes with the person that taught me more about health, nutrition, food and cooking than anyone ever taught me in school. She has no nutrition degree but when it comes to wellness, she just gets it. She lives a healthy & balanced lifestyle not for the purpose of posting about it (she doesn’t have social media) or weighing herself (she doesn’t own a scale) but because it makes her feel good and it’s what’s best for our family. She questioned my neurologists when I was 14 and said...there has to be a better way than directly jumping to medication. That’s when she and my dad explored functional medicine. After I was diagnosed with a leaky gut and gluten intolerance, she completely adjusted her cooking to gluten-free and packed me every meal Bc it was impossible to eat out on a gluten-free diet. SO much I have learned from my incredible mom who has inspired my career and many of my recipes that you’ve experienced! And there’s more where that came from for recipe creations! Aren’t moms just the best?!? Wishing you a fabulous week!!! 💕
  • Happy, clean and green cows (not literally green but grass-fed)! There’s obvious nutritional benefits to choosing grass-fed beef over grain-fed but the other thing to consider is that people have enough stress as it is...way too much to be eating stressed out animals! Trying to chill like these cows today...anyone else?! Happyyy Sunday! #youarewhatyoueat #grassfed #buylocal
  • Processed Food Addiction is not a personal problem, it’s a societal epidemic. When societal norms promote junk food and make it affordable and accessible anytime and anywhere, people become addicted. In order to break this toxic cycle, we need more information and awareness!! Much of this info is included in @markhymanmd’s new book, Food What the Heck Should I Eat, coming in hot in two weeks!! And stay tuned for his new program that will help you understand your own unique nutritional needs! #food #cleaneats #realfood #wholefoods
  • Throwing it back to our gut health yoga & nutrition workshop because gut health is SO much more than popping probiotics! You can spend tons of money on functional tests and supplements but if you don’t do the internal work, it’s not going to get you anywhere! I’ve seen it happen one too many times. #tbt #guthealth @clevelandyoga @soul_activist @breathlessyoga
  • I heard this quote from @ariannahuff when I left my stable hospital job to build my own business. Your belief in yourself and your dreams have the power to become your wings that help you soar! Such a beautiful thing! 💗👼🦅 #happywednesday #happyvalentinesday #namaste
  • Ever wonder why the USDA recommends 6 oz of grains per day for women under 51 and 7-8 oz per day for men?? Or why they recommend half of your grains be whole grain when we know that refined grains are directly associated with heart disease, type 2 diabetes and SIBO? Translation: eat 6-8 slices of bread or 6-8 cups of cereal per day—half of those can be white bread or refined grains. Say whatttt?!? I wonder all the time and I’ve tried for years to understand it. Please message me if you or anyone you know has ever benefited from this approach! I’m dying to hear from you! #functionalnutrition #veggieshavelotsoffibertoo
  • This morning was the first time in a longtime that I was able to actually sleep in. And it felt almost as good as a plate loaded with my messy PB&J pancakes! Whoop whoop! Have the best day ever! #sunday #pancakes #pbandjstyle #paleo
  • Last night @juliefoucher and I wrapped up the last FB Live for the @healthyselfreset! I said that I don’t believe that the ‘all foods fit’ approach works for everyone. I also have never bought the whole idea of everything in moderation because there’s too many highly processed foods that would qualify. I wrote a research paper on this a few years ago with @krissypicks and from everything we gathered, the term moderation is extremely subjective. This is what I know: food sensitivities are real, gluten-free isn’t a fad for most people, Diet Coke isn’t any better than regular coke and the body was not designed to process a diet high in processed foods. As consumers we need to demand better information and in the meantime, the most important thing you can do for your own nutrition is listen to your body! #nutrition #glutenfree #wholefoods #guthealth
