Welcome to BeingBrigid--my functional nutrition hub! I'm Brigid, a Functional Medicine Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a food first philosophy to treating and preventing chronic disease. I started my career as the Founding Dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine and have since transitioned to building a functional nutrition consulting business.   • The most gorgeous display of nature’s medicine! An easy way to reduce your toxic exposure to pesticides and insecticides is to buy organic fruits and veggies when possible. Its expensive to buy everythingggg organic so I swear by prioritizing organic for produce on the dirty dozen list from the @environmentalworkinggroup. Checkout their list of produce with the most pesticides. Also note that produce stickers that have a five digit number that starts with #9 will always mean its organic! A four-digit code that starts with #3 or #4 means it’s conventionally grown.   • Humans were not designed to eat 24 hours a day. Practicing intermittent fasting for at least 12 hours overnight promotes dna repair and induces autophagy which is when the body recycles damaged mitochondria. I’m sad to be leaving LA but I’m super excited to head to Arizona this morning for the @mindbodygreen Revitalize Conference and talk about intermittent fasting, sleep and the new science on morning routines with @drjkahn!   • Meditating with @megmonahan for the 2nd time this week at Unplugged! They actually have an entire studio setup just for meditation! It’s awesome. Megan taught me something so valuable during her meditation at the Feel Good Summit...develop a relationship with your future self. For me that meant not eating my only RXBar yesterday morning because I knew that future Brigid would really want it way more later in the afternoon when she was actually hungry! It can be applied when tempted with food, not filling your gas, skipping a workout or meal prep, drinking too much alcohol, etc. It’s pretty straightforward...become more conscious of your future self and try not to screw him/her over! #selflove #meditation #unplugged #feelgood2018

  • Gluten-free bowls: Mexican & Mediterranean from Glo Vegan @gloiceland in Reykjavik. We found this gem of a restaurant (thanks to @juliefoucher) that caters to gluten-free and vegan diets! About 13 years ago when I cut gluten I could hardly eat out at restaurants in my hometown. I love that today there’s so many more options for everyone with celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity that you can travel internationally to a non-English speaking country and still have places to eat! You have to do a little research but the options do exist! Also this is one of three meals that we ate out at a restaurant in 10 days of traveling bc food at restaurants in Iceland is absurdly expensive! If you’re ballin’ on a budget like we are then you’ll definitely want to pack as much food as possible, stop at grocery stores along the way and then stock up on hard boiled eggs and skyr yogurt for when you’re on the countryside with no grocery stores! #iceland #guidetoiceland #glovegan #plantbased #glutenfree #glutenfreefood #glutenfreevegan #glutenfreetravel
