Strawberry Banana Sorbet

Jump to recipe

Who needs ice cream when you can make an amazingly nutritious Strawberry Banana Sorbet for a tasty after dinner treat!? This is a perfect treat for kids that contains lots of powerful nutrients like potassium, vitamin C, fiber, and more! You will fool the kids into thinking that it’s a real dessert because of the natural sweetness from the strawberries and bananas plus 1 tsp of maple syrup. The added sugar in this recipe comes from the 1 tsp of maple syrup which equals 4 grams in two servings and 2 grams in one serving! This is much better than the 10-25 grams of added sugar that typically comes in a bowl of ice cream!

The new American Heart Association guidelines for added sugar consumption in children is a huge game changer for the food industry and hopefully consumers and families. Kids cannot live off of diets high in added sugar if they are going to be healthy in their adult years. As a country we are consuming 20% more added sugar than we did in 1970. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans found that 70% of Americans are exceeding their daily limit of added sugar.

The Risks of Eating too Much Added Sugar

Sugar is being looked at more specifically than it was in the past because there is now strong evidence that added sugar consumption is associated with an increased risk of excessive adiposity, childhood obesity, insulin resistance, heart disease and tooth decay. In other words, a diet high in added sugar is setting kids up for a lifetime of obesity and chronic disease. But that doesn’t have to be a child’s destiny! It’s never too late to help kids eat healthier and start to prioritize their health. This sweet treat is the perfect step in the right direction! Try replacing high sugar desserts with this Strawberry Delicious Banana Sorbet!
